Carved plaster - Moroccan Bazaar Contracts

Carved plaster

A triumph of depth, detail and beauty, our geps – or carved stucco – plasterwork is all the more extraordinary for being produced against the clock.

It begins with a layer of slow-drying plaster several centimetres thick, which is carefully smoothed by a craftsman known as a tarrah.

This is then carved by a naqqash, working from a stencilled pattern and from key reference points marked on the plaster by a khatat to ensure symmetrical precision.

Watching these craftsmen at work in our dedicated Casablanca atelier – or on site – is truly a privilege.
