African mahogany from Ghana, ebony from Madagascar, rosewood from India, cedar from the Middle Atlas mountains. Timber of all kinds has been transported to and from the port of Tangier for centuries, but today we make sure the best of it – kiln-dried for stability – stays in the city at our specialist woodwork atelier.
There – and in our partner joinery atelier in Fes – our maalem draw on a tradition that they trace back to the prophet Noah to conjure up mighty doors adorned with geometric tastir carvings; enigmatic mashrabiya latticework screens; elegant sideboards inlaid with mother-of-pearl; and richly-hued tables hand-painted in Morocco’s traditional zouaq style.
